Henry Mkare
Co-Founder, Director at Kickstart Kilifi.
He was a child laborer who turned into a university-graduate. One month after joining high school he lost his dad and 7 months later his grandfather was killed on allegations of witchcraft. Being the oldest in his family, he became the breadwinner, at the age of 16.
Henry holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership for Social change from kanthari International Leadership training institute, Kerala-India, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Diplomacy with Information Technology from Maseno University, Kenya. He is also an Alumni of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) East Africa Cohort 33 (Civic Leadership Track) and Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Kenya where he learnt-Social Entrepreneurship.
Henry is involved in different campaigns and social charities as a volunteer and an ambassador. He is also one of the founding members and the Second Chairperson of the Bamba Ward University Students Association (BWUSA). An association they founded in 2013 together with other 13 university students from his ward(An area represented by a Member of County Assembly (MCA) who is an equivalent to a councilor in some countries) to offer mentorship to in school teenagers and youths in his ward so as to boost their numbers in higher institutions of learning. In February 2018 he was appointed as the Ward Ambassador to Youth Senate Kenya (YSK), a position he served up-to February 2019.
